Oh, a new movie trailer! It’s my favorite movie ever, I’m gonna watch it right now! … Damn, these annoying ads. err.
It happens with most of us, always. We get excited about a video when we see the link somewhere on the web, but as soon as we click on it and it starts playing, annoying ads come up. It’s feels like hell broke on us, while using a slow internet connection. It keeps on buffering the advertisement, after every few seconds! That makes the one minute ad, even more irritating and time consuming.
Ha! Why not get rid of YouTube ads? It works in both popular browsers, Firefox and Chrome. It does not only remove the ads which play at the beginning, but also the ones stays at the bottom of the video player everytime and annotations. Plus, you can customize if you want to hide only ads or annotations too, and some other useful settings. So, no matter which browser you use, you’ll get a clean and ad-free video playback experience.
How exactly to do this? It’s just a simple script, install it and you’re good to go. You just need to do a one-time job, which takes hardly a minute. Let’s get started.
Remove YouTube Ads in Firefox:
- Install Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox.
- Restart the browser.
- Jump to instructions to install the script.
Remove YouTube Ads in Google Chrome:
Unfortunately, Greasemonkey is not available for Chrome. But, an alternative monkey is there, Tampermonkey. It works exactly the same, and the scripts compatible with Greasemonkey are compatible with this too.
- Install Tampermonkey extension for Chrome.
- No need to restart, follow the instructions to install the script.
Install Script to Get Rid of YouTube Advertisements:
The heart of the trick is, installing this script. It does all the job, the add-ons are just a medium to run the script. Like I said, you don’t need any coding skills. All you need to do is, follow these steps:
- Go to the script page, on user-scripts website.
- Click on the ‘Install’ button at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Read the instructions, and complete the installation.
- Tada! Now no ads while playing videos.
Wait! You need to know some things before you close this window. Read on.
When you’ll play any video, you won’t hear the sound. That’s because the default settings of the script is set to auto-buffer and mute while buffering. You need to change it. To do so, play any video on YouTube, and above the video player you’ll see “Autobuffer Options” button. Click on it, and set the setting as you want. If you need any help, ask me in the comments.
When auto-buffer option is on, every time you’ll play a video it’ll pause after a sec or two (but will keep buffering). You can turn that setting off if you just need to hide ads and/or annotations.
I hope it was helpful, now you can watch more videos in less time. Thanks to ad-free version of YouTube.
