If you were to compare various online videos created using screen recording side by side, you’d notice that there is often a marked difference in their quality. In fact if you have tried recording videos of your own, you may have noticed that the quality isn’t exactly as good as you hoped it would be.
The good news is that it really isn’t that difficult to start to record better and more impressive videos using screen recording, and there are a few ways that you can get started right here and now:
- Record at high resolutions
One of the most important factors that affects the quality of screen recording videos is the resolution. By recording at high resolutions, the video will look sharper and have better definition.
Nowadays it is best to try to record videos in 1080p Full HD if possible. However when using screen recording you may be limited by the resolution of your display – in which case you should try to record at as high a resolution as it permits.
The one exception to this rule is if you require videos in a different (i.e. non-16:9) aspect ratio, where you should try to aim for as high a resolution in that aspect ratio as possible. For example if you want to record a video with a square (1:1) aspect ratio for Instagram, you could record at a resolution of 1080×1080.
- Increase the frame rate
The frame rate that you record at can also have a dramatic effect on the video quality. If you increase it and record with a higher frame rate, your video will look smoother and any movement in it will look much more fluid.
Although recording at a frame rate of 30 frames per second is acceptable in terms of quality, you should try to increase it to above 40, or even 60 if possible. The impact of a higher frame rate will be clearly visible, especially when it comes to tracking the cursor movement or other actions on-screen.
It should be noted that recording at higher frame rates will take up more processing power however. On top of that the video file size will be larger as well.
- Improve the audio quality
Many videos that are recorded using screen recording have a voiceover that is recorded in tandem, but its quality is often overlooked. Unfortunately poor quality audio can drag down the overall quality of your video – which is the last thing that you want.
To start to improve the audio quality, you should look to the microphone that you’re using first and foremost. While you don’t need a studio-quality microphone, it should be decent enough and able to capture crisp and clear audio.
Aside from that you should try to minimize any background noise, or switch to a quieter environment for recording. Alternatively you could record the voiceover separately and add it to the video during post-production.
If you use these tips when you next record video on PC, you should immediately see the difference that they make to its quality. Depending on the screen recorder you’re using you may even be able to edit the video and improve it after you’re done, and for example you could try Movavi Screen Capture Studio for that.
All said and done recording better and more impressive videos using screen recording is really very straightforward – especially once you know what areas to look out for. In fact by recording high quality video footage, you should have everything that you need to create professional-looking video content of your own with a few simple edits.
