In a brilliant marketing move, Amazon updated its homepage yesterday to showcase its new budget tablet, Kindle Fire HD. But, as you must have noticed, this homepage is not just any other sales pitch, it’s an all out war against Apple.
Amazons homepage starts off with this quote from Gizmodo :
…your [Apple’s] 7.9-inch tablet has far fewer pixels than the competing 7-inch tablets! You’re cramming a worse screen in there, charging more, and accusing others of compromise? Ballsy.
And then comes this :
One might notice the subtle nuances that Amazon has done with this layout. The iPads text is monochromatic and the font is slightly smaller than that of the vibrant and colorful Kindle Fire HD. The iPad is behind the Kindle in the image and has a very dull wallpaper on while the Kindle Fire HD is just ready to play The Hunger Games. But the thing that stands out the most is the price difference.
Amazon claims, and probably correctly so, that the Kindle Fire HD delivers more than the iPad Mini for a lesser price, and this is what its homepage is loudly proclaiming right now.
It will be interesting to watch Apple respond to this, if I dare say.
