After the amazing response that the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus duo received from public, Apple sure is back in the smartphone market. 21 million units have been sold of the iPhone 6 duo till day which marks an exact month since the iPhone 6 duo was released and made available to the public. But that is not the only new product that will be unveiled by Apple this year as the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 were unveiled by Apple just today.
iPad Air 2
Talking about the second gen iPad Air 2 first, this tablet has a lot of new features as compared to its predecessor the iPad Air. To start with, you’ll find the iPad Air 2 to be only 6.1 mm thick, making it the thinnest tablet ever in the market and thats not the only good thing about its appearance. The Air 2 will now be made available in Gold and Silver color schemes along with Space Gray, the first iPad to do so.
Some significant changes under the hood include the incorporation of the Apple A8X chipset, which has been manufactured specially for this range of the iPads. This means the CPU is upto 40% faster while the GPU performs 2.5X better than that on the A7 chipset.
The iPad Air 2 also features the TouchID fingerprint sensor which made its debut on the current Apple flagship smartphone, the iPhone 6. The screen has been kept the same as the iPad Air but has a better anti-reflective coating which makes the screen upto 56% less reflective.
The cameras have received some major upgradations too. The rear shutter which is an 8 MP F/24 unit is capable of shooting time-lapse videos, slow-motion videos at 120 fps and also sees the burst mode. An extra mic has been built into the body to allow stereo audio recording, the first of its kind. The front camera is no less with a new sensor, HDR videos and improved face detection capabilities.
Unfortunately, the same battery has been used as its predecessors which churns out about 10 hours of usage time.
Talking about the pricing of the iPad Air 2, you’ll have to shell out about $499 for the 16 GB variant and the 64 GB variant comes in $100 costlier at $599 and the 128 GB variant costs you $699. Like the iPhone 6, the 32 GB variant has no longer been made available. LTE will cost you $130 extra.
You can now pre-order the iPad Air 2, shipping starts next week.
iPad Mini 3
Along with the iPad Air 2 was unveiled the third gen iPad Mini, called the iPad Mini 3 which failed to grab much attention. Though both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 were unveiled at the same event, the iPad Air 2 grabbed all the limelight and it had all the reasons to do so. While the Air 2 received a lot many new features, the Mini 3 has not been so fortunate.
The iPad Mini 3 carries the same 7.9″ display with a resolution of 1,536 X 2,048 pixels, though this one is a Retina display. The cameras too haven’t changed much: a 5 MP iSight camera on the back with an HD FaceTime shutter on the front.
Like the iPad Air 2, the iPad Mini 3 too has been fortunate enough to get the TouchID fingerprint scanner along with Apple Pay. Everything else on the iPad Mini 3 is the same as its predecessors.
The iPad Mini 3 will also be made available in Gold, Silver and Space Gray color schemes. As for the prices, you’ll have to shell out $400, $500 and $600 for the 16 GB, 64 GB and the 128 GB variants respectively. The LTE variant comes in at an extra $130 on top of the price for the memory variant that you choose.
