Of the four devices, iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 are probably the most talked about gadgets in the history of technology. Rumor mill was churning vigorously before the two phones came to the market. On the other hand, Google has surprised everyone with the awesome features of its recently announced Google Nexus 4. With awesome specifications and looks, Nexus 4 certainly has become one of the toughest competitors of Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5. Even HTC have launched an advanced version of HTC One X which they named as HTC One X+. We have compared all these Smartphones. Check out the detailed comparison.

Resolution of iPhone 5’s screen is 1136x640p at 326ppi, that of Nexus 4 is 1280x768p with 320ppi pixel density and that if Galaxy S3 is 1280x720p at 306ppi. Winner- Google Nexus 4

Round 2. Design

HTC One X+ and Nexus 4 have similar dimensions; Galaxy S3 is slightly larger but Nexus 4 is thicker at 9.1 mm compared to Galaxy S3’s 8.6 mm. iPhone 5 is lighter and smaller than both, which explains its smaller screen. In terms of looks, all four cater to different consumers. iPhone has its own following, while Galaxy S3 has a big and bold form. For those who find Galaxy S3’s build too cumbersome or iPhone too tall, HTC One X+ and Nexus 4 are perfect for them.

Winners – HTC One X+ and Google Nexus 4

Round 3. Battery

iPhone 5 has a 1440mAh battery, while Galaxy S3, HTC One X+ and Nexus 4 have 2100mAh units. Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3 have built-in wireless charging units, but the separate pads are not sold with the handsets.

Winners- Galaxy S3, HTC One X+ and Nexus 4

Round 4. Software

Nexus 4 comes with the latest Android edition- Jellybean (Android 4.2). HTC ONE X+ comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean version. While S3 was initially powered by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), it has recently been updated to Android 4.1 JellyBean. Nexus 4, being a Google phone, uses the company’s stock OS, while Samsung has customised Android with its own TouchWiz UI. iPhone 5 uses iOS6, which was launched with the phone. It has its own set of added functionalities like Siri and FaceTime.

Winner: Nexus 4

Round 5. Hardware and Camera

Nexus 4 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with a quadcore Krait processor, clocked at 1.5GHz. It runs decisively faster than Apple 5’s 1.2GHz A6 dual core processor. Samsung Galaxy S3 has packed in a fiery Exynos 4 quad core processor at 1.4GHz.  While iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 have 1GB of RAM, Nexus 4 has 2GB RAM, which makes it work faster and smoother. All the four phones have 8 MP primary cameras. S3 has the best front camera with a 1.9MP sensor, while Nexus 4 has a 1.3MP camera and iPhone 5 has a 1.2MP snapper. HTC One X+ has 1.6 MP front camera.

Round 6. Price

In this one respect, Google LG Nexus 4 is a reasonable buy compared to the rest three. The 16 GB model of iPhone 5 costs Rs. 61199 while the 16GB model of Samsung I9300 Galaxy S3 costs Rs. 34699. HTC One X+ would cost you Rs. 40,190. Compared to the three phones, the approximate price of Nexus 4 is Rs. 28000. As the other specifications of all three phones are somewhat at par, the huge price gap between iPhone 5 and Nexus 4 may deflect some consumers towards the latter.

Round 7. Apps

Apps are one of the pivotal features of Smartphones, especially one of this status. Nexus 4, HTC One X+ and Galaxy S3 are Android devices while iPhone 5 runs on iOS 6. Android’s Play Store offers much more versatility in terms of apps compared to Apple’s iTunes store. While most apps have both iOS and Android versions, Android provides a lot of cheap alternatives and has more amateur developers on board.

Round 8. Pros and Cons

Galaxy S3 Pros

  • Battery life is long
  • AMOLED display
  • A fast processor

Galaxy S3 Cons

  • S Voice is not optimized
  • Size perhaps too big

iPhone 5 Pros

  • Price much higher than competition

Nexus 4 Pros

  • Design is attractive and stylish
  • Specifications are impressive
  • Great display
  • Lower price than competition

Nexus 4 Cons

  • Limited storage
  • Non-removable battery
HTC One X+ Pros
  • Very Good Image and video quality
  • Powerful Hardware
  • Capacitive keys
HTC One X+ Cons
  • High Price
  • Average battery backup

My Verdict: Google Nexus 4 vs Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC Onex+

For a more customizable OS, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Google Nexus 4 undercut Apple’s iPhone 5. Although Apple’s iOS has almost a cult following, Android is more versatile and suitable for new users. On top of that, the processor of iPhone 5, despite being faster than the previous iPhone, is slower than Nexus 4 or S3. If we compare Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3, either phone can be the winner. If you can do without 4G LTE,  Nexus 4 will serve you best.  But if you want more storage and 4G and don’t mind paying some more, Samsung Galaxy S3 is your phone. The price of iPhone 5 is very much higher as compared to Galaxy S3, HTC One X+ and Nexus 4. Choice is all yours. Go for the one which you find as the most suitable phone according to your needs..

Good comparison! However I think you missed LG Optimus 4X HD here as this Android flagships is no less powerful than SGS3 or iPhone5. With same specs sheet Optimus 4X costs about Rs. 5000 ($100) less than SGS3. I own both SGS3 and Optimus 4X and I must say the later is no underdog. What do you think about this?
