From today itself Google’s 10-inch Android tablet Nexus 10 is on sale. The 16 GB version is costs 399 euros, whereas the 32-GB model costs 499 euros. Google’s 10-inch tablet Nexus 10 comes with a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels, surpassing even the iPad, with its Retina display. The operating system Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is already used, which brings a lot of attractive features. The iPad competitor will be available at just 399 Euro.
The first question that is always asked when someone is interested in a tablet is: “Is it really as good as the current iPad?” In the case of Google Nexus 10, the answer is short and sweet “no“. The iPad is still “theunbeatable tablet”, thanks to its undefeated performance and its app and media connections.
But for those who can do without on Apple, Nexus 10 is far high on the shopping list of them. But even then, the decision is not easy. Nexus 10offers the example of fellow Android Transformer TF700 Infinity which is having better main camera, a brighter display, expandable memory and a power supply that meets the demands of the charging process.
Thus, the charging process takes place at Nexus 10 via the micro-USB port – not the most efficient solution to load a high-end tablet. There is no problem if you put the tablet on charge for full night.
But why the Nexus 10 has the potential to be the best Android tablet? It’s simple: the screen is great and delivers sharpest view–as compared to other tablets. It is the 10-inch tablet that is most comfortable in the hand and it is more stable. Moreover, it is the first tablet which runs on the Android 4.2 and brings the great new features like Photo Sphere. Photo Sphere integrated with an extremely cool feature in Google Android, which previously was only in the form of third-party apps. 360-degree panoramic photos: the new camera option enables assembling multiple images to create a panoramic view – not only horizontally but also vertically. This allows the final image rotate in all directions and wish to upload to Google Maps, where it can be viewed by other users. Alternatively, the so-called photo Spheres also can be published via Google+. .
The Google Nexus 10 measures 26.6 by 17.8 cm which is about 9 millimeters in height and comes with a spectacular but not necessarily a good overall design. With a weight of 603 grams, it is of comparatively simple and comes with a concave shape, and to the edges of a slender tapered back. With a lightweight design and the gently rounded corners, it is not unpleasant drilled into the palms. The back of a comfortable grip, feels rubbery and protects your tablet at the same time. The material takes places through the corners. The whole entire outer shell seems to be designed to protect the sensitive inner workings.

The tablet does not take offense when it touches something coarser. Accidental fall to the ground, it has withstood without prejudice in the test – such actions are, however, not to emulate them, but when in comparison to the iPadtransformer Infinity holds in this situation. It is therefore especially suitable for families, in which family members of different ages share a device.
With the produced by Samsung and all in black held tablet can not deny a certain similarity to the Galaxy Note 10.1N with its wide margin. Nexus 10 is slightly wider, especially from the side edges, as the speakers – clearly visible behind the perforated surface – integrated. Even though some may prefer visually narrower margins, so the tablet can easily hold with two hands in the landscape mode, the hands obscure although some of the speakers, but not completely, because they occupy the available total of 17.5 at least 14 centimeters. So that the sound has enough space to unfold.
At left side, thereis the headphone jack and the micro USB port. At the top left edge of the tablet, Power-/Sleep-Taste and volume controls are housed. There is also a micro-HDMI port and the magnetic pogo pin connector.
On the back of the upper part,it extends a strip with a textured surface over the entire width. Within this strip, which can be removed, the 5-megapixel camera is housed along with LED flash and microphone. On the front of the center of the black border, Samsung has installed the front camera with 1.9 megapixels and an ambient light sensor. On the back – centered – emblazoned the Nexus logo and including slightly smaller Samsung logo.
The Nexus 10 is the first tablet which works on Samsung’s 1.7-GHz dual-core Exynos CPU 5250th and the GPU Mali T-604 is used accompanied by 2 GB of RAM. The Nexus supports WiFi 802.11b/g/n under (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC (Near Field Communication). A 3G data connection is not available. In addition, a gyroscope, a barometer, an accelerometer and a digital compass are embedded on the board.
Android 4.0 replaced with Android 4.2
Those who have already seen Android 4.1 on the Nexus 7, should have roughly an idea of what you can expect from the version 4.2.
The Quick Launch bar at the bottom of the Home Screen is already known from the 4.1 version and comes standard with access to a variety of applications. Including Google Play Store, Google Music and Books or Youtube. In addition, the bar a folder that contains the Chrome browser, Google Maps, Google Plus, Gmail, and other services. In the middle of the bar is then to click to open the app menu. A finger swipe of the Home button up toward the app menu icon takes you directly to Google’s personal assistant Google Now.
Now the Google service is Google’s answer to Apple’s assistants which speak toSiri. It handles voice commands for several tasks, like call a contact, sending e-mails and text messages, the open Web pages or playing music. It can alsoused to display information such as the current weather, appointments, sports news of the favorite teams, schedules of public transportation or nearby settlements that may interest the users.
Now the idea behind Google, is that the service to the user which automatically delivers information when they need it. Leaves of smartphone owners, for example, the evening’s work, it is conceivable that the service fits the way home displays current traffic reports, without the user having to search for it themselves. The information presented in the form of so-called Now Google Maps. The user can adjust themselves, to show what cards Now Google and which are not.
Google developed its service even further and continually adds new cards. With the recent updates, for example, tickets for nearby attractions, concerts, movies, stock quotes, or disaster reports have been added.
What’s New at 4.2
Version 4.2 brings some interesting new features. For example, wiping gestures for writing text in the style of an alternative keyboard or Swype, Photo Sphere with an application that can shoot to the 360-degree panoramic images. Furthermore, the improved Jelly Bean for an easier and faster access to the most important settings of your tablet. With a finger swipe from the top right corner down to open a window with shortcuts that lead, for example, the WLAN settings or brightness. Touch of a finger, users can also launched the airplane mode or activate as Bluetooth.
Also the ability is to zoom in by triple tap on the screen to the touched area is newly added. Moreover Jelly Bean 4.2 brings with function Daydream with a screen saver that turns on when the tablet is not in use. Depending on the setting, it can displays photos, a clock, news from Google Currents or other information. Stories from the feed to run slowly across the screen and will open in the current app as soon as it taps.
In addition, the Google GMail app has given a new design. E-mail attachments with pictures she now displays directly below the text, without the user having to press an extra button to load. Also convenient is the ability to banish with a wiping gesture individual messages to the archive soon. On paper, maybe just a little features for users that receive lots of spam messages, but not insignificant.
Moreover the final versionJelly Bean 4.2 supports multiple user profiles and widgets on the lock screen. For the launch on 13 November these features will be available on the tablet.
Multi Screen, Lock Screen: This feature coming soon
The Nexus 10 has Miracast support, which allows the contents of Nexus 10 to mirror wirelessly to compatible HDTVs or using a corresponding Miracast adapter – so to speak, the Android is answer to Apple’s AirPlay. However, according to Google, this technology will not be on the market before 2013 and the adapter that we ordered did not come in until the deadline.
The camera application has received a completely redesigned user interface and is now launching with even a mode for HDR photos. In the beginning, there are perhaps not deal immediately, but has to get used to the new design, you will find it much more intuitive and elegant.
The most interesting new feature, however, is undoubtedly the function Photo Sphere, which can shoot the 360-degree panoramic images that offer much more than a simple Panorama photo.
The Super PLS panel (tilt-to-line switching) of the Nexus 10 is the best display on an Android tablet and simply captivating. But what about it compared to the Retina display of the iPad with its 2048 x 1536 pixels (264 ppi pixel density) from. Frankly, it is extremely difficult to detect any differences here. Both tablets provide text which is very sharp and it is almost impossible to tell where the representation is actually clear, also the display of the Nexus 10 with 2560 times 1600 pixels with a pixel density of 299 ppi even dissolves slightly more expensive. One would have to actually decide a winner, it would have the Nexus 10 step ahead, because in the tests a few times actually visible yet yielded clearer and better results

Games that have been optimized for the display appear on the Nexus 10 clearly sharper. NOVA 3 has received an update in the meantime, looks stunning, and almost always better than the opponent iPad.
Only a few apps in the Play Store tailored to the high resolution of the Nexus 10, but many adjust the resolution to the extent that a clear and sharp image will appear. In the representation of black areas, the contrast and the color rendering, however, suggests that the iPad nexus. The black of the Nexus does not have such a great depth, the white does not appear so stunning as it should be, and also the colors are not quite as brilliant.
The Nexus 10 is probably the fastest Android tablet as per the test. It’s not as consistently fast as the third-generation iPad (and assuming of course also the fourth generation), but when navigating through the menus, and when you switch apps, it is faster than any other Android tablets and that the high speed even when Rendering Sun retains many pixels is a clear demonstration of the power of the Exynos 5250 CPU.
Nevertheless dive some weaknesses that we thought they were gone with the Nexus 7, here again. Apps hang on when the device is restarted. Hopefully, the Google irons out these issues before the official launch.
The touch screen responds very well and quickly to inputs. The scrolling works fine and while typing there is little misinterpretation. If the tablet flat on the table, the letters are as accurate as possible so far on any other tablet – not even on the iPad. The keyboard of the iPad is just enough – no question – but the Nexus 10 also provides more room for your hands.
We had no opportunity to the 9000 mAh battery of the Nexus 10 to to exhaust its limits, but only a first impression to convey, we have the Nexus 10 and the iPad the third generation turned the brightness full and twenty minutes Riptide GP played. The iPad dropped it from 20 to 11 percent and on the Nexus 7 from 98 to 88 percent. When the test is completed to battery life, there is at this point an appropriate update.
We usedthe included micro-USB cable and the power cablefor charging the Samsung Nexus 10. When the tablet is in sleep mode, it loads fine, if a little slow, but when you play certain games like Riptide GP during loading, the Nexus discharges continue. If you play the other hand from a HD movie with full brightness, while the Nexus invites, when it comes to the battery either on-or to discharge.
In the next test, turn the brightness in two different passes on the brightest and to the lowest setting and leave for 20 minutes completely while charging alone – off to sleep. At the highest brightness level, it is possible to increase the charge of the battery to just one percentage point. At the lowest level there are three percent battery remaining.Everything is not an issue when the tablet usually overnight charges, but it could definitely be a problem if you want to sweeten the waiting time at the airport with some entertainment.
The quality of the 5-megapixel camera on the back is better than most tablets, but is not in a position, the 8-megapixel camera of the Transformer in terms of infinity to hit color and brilliance. The 1.9-megapixel front camera is good just for Skype calls or video chats.
Web pages load very quickly, sometimes they even appear immediately. Mostly, however, the times are roughly in the range of the third generation iPads Raton. The test app with 272 MByte need to download about a minute less than the Transformer is Infinity and with 20 seconds in the speed of the iPad.
These speakers sound extremely loud, the quality is not earth shattering. It is certainly good, but we’re definitely still spoiled by the stunning Dolby speakers of the Kindle Fire HD sustainable.
The Nexus 10 is the first Android tablet in the Samsung Exynos5259, a Cortex A-15 CPU with Mali T-604 GPU is used. It can also be found in the current Google Chromebook from Samsung. In the gaming tests it outperforms the previous champions, the Asus Transformer Infinity. However, the games run on the iPad third generation faster and in some cases, higher quality and more complex texture and geometry.
That is not the fault of the Nexus 10th because most tablet games are first optimized for the iPad, so the code is directly tailored to the components, the resolution and A5X processor.
Since there Nexus 10 is equipped with brand new hardware and not even available on the market, not all games are optimized for it, even if that course procedure has already begun to optimize games for the Nexus tablets. When we first played Riptide GP on the Nexus 10, the frame rate was pretty inconsistent, but thanks to an update that was released by the developers of Vector Unit little later, the game is now much more stable and often reached the magic mark of 60 frames per second. We hope that there will be further updates in securities, in other versions are already available. EA and Gameloft have appropriate updates with optimizations for the Nexus 10 for 13 November promised and even at NOVA 3 get some overdue improvements.
Incidentally, the GLBenmark 2.5.1 Nexus 10 provides for an even better performance when compared to the iPad Nexus 10 third generation, said the Nexus 10 here and there even beats the iPhone 5 with A6 CPU.
The Nexus is not an iPad killer at least not in its current state. There are still some points in the performance, which Google need to repair. While awaiting detailed information on price and availability of the Pogo Chargers, charging pace remains thea point of criticism. We also eagerly await how the situation develops the app to availability and optimized. There are a few apps that work on the tablet really great, but we would like to see more than just a handful of them.
The iPad is popular only due to the continuous improvement in performance over the years, the app selection and the comprehensive media offering is still the first choice. Who decides for Android or has held, for it depends on what he is looking closely. The Nexus 10 shines with great design and powerful performance and the features that Android 4.2 offers alone are worth the price. Because of this pre-release version, we can leave no unreserved recommendation at this time.
