If you have done this, and want to recover those files back, then do not worry, there are chances that you may recover those files successfully. But, it’s better to start the recovery as soon as possible, because as time goes on, the chances of the recovery reduce a lot.

A Recycle Bin is provided by Windows Operating System to avoid such mistakes, and hence your deleted files may lie around there for a while, before it actually gets deleted. But, the bad news is that is doesn’t work with the external drives. But still, no worries, we got ways to recover the files.

Recovering using Recuva

Let us try software named as Recuva. It is very easy to install this software, and during the installation you might also have the option to check if you want to install the Yahoo! Toolbar.

After the installation of the software, simply launch the Recuva wizard and the process to recover your files and pictures will almost begin, after we choose the necessary options.

The first screen asks you to search for specific type of file only. Choosing the right option will help the search to speed up, and the results will also be presented in a good manner. So, choose the necessary option, according to the type of file you want to recover.

On the next screen, you will be presented with the option to choose the location from where you deleted the file. Now, on this screen, all the available memories will be listed, and you need to choose the disk accordingly.

The next screen will take you to an important option. There will be the option to run a Deep Scan, which scans for the files very properly, and will take a lot of time. So, instead it is recommended to first run the search without the deep scan option. If you are not satisfied with the result, then you may go back and run the scan with the Deep Scan option enabled.

After the scan is completed, you will be presented with a list of files (in this case the pictures) which have been deleted form the selected memory.

You may sometimes be presented with a very huge list of recovered files. In this case, if you want to make your recovery faster, then go to advanced options and sort the images according to the last modified time. So, this will make the looking up of the files pretty easy and convenient.

When you find any file which you want to recover, you may simply right click on it and save that file on your hard disk, by choosing the option Recover it.

Recovering using DiskDigger

Before using this software, I recommend you to download an old version of this software, as it has not become a shareware, and hence prompt for every file you try to save.

If Recuva did not do the good job, then you may go ahead and try out DiskDagger. It is awesome software for file recovery. Both the software do not always result in with the same set of files, so it is best to go ahead and use both the software to recover your files.

This software does not require any installation.

Choose the disk you want to recover the files from.

Now, you will have options to search for the files in “dig deep” way or “dig deeper” way. First try with the “dig deep” way, and then you may proceed with the “dig deeper” option, if not satisfied with the first option’s result.

In case you go ahead with the “dig deeper” option, then you will be presented with a window where you may choose the types of file which you want to search for.

After the scanning, the result can be viewed, with the names in the left side, and a preview of the file in the right side.

You may choose more than one files here, and recover them. Easy, isn’t it? Have fun recovering.
