Do you frequently find yourself looking for an old post on Facebook? If yes, you must know that it is not an easy task. Having to scroll through someone’s timeline to search a post thats a year or more old is not pleasing but do not worry. Facebook has come to our rescue with this new feature. Though only available on iOS and desktop devices as of now, we guess it will soon be available on Android devices too.
This new feature makes searching for posts very easy if you remember one or more of the words used in the post and the name of the person who posted it. For example, if you want to search for a post that lets say somebody in your friend list named Mike made about beaches, just type “Mike beach” in the search bar and click on the search button. As usual, you will get the list of people who have names similar to “Mike beach” but at the bottom, you will see your searched keywords written in plain text with a magnifying glass next to it. Clicking on that will show you the list of all the posts people in your friend list named “Mike” made about beaches. Pretty cool isn’t it? This is how it works:
To make the searches better and more effective, here are some tips:
- Keywords : Mentioning keywords that were used in the post rather that mentioning the whole post would be a good idea as it will save your time and reportedly returns better search results on the Facebook search engine. This tip could also be helpful for times when you don’t remember the whole post and just fragments of it.
- First Name: Entering the first name of the person who made this post will narrow down the search results, hence resulting in better search results.
- Settings: You can change the category of the results being displayed by tapping on the settings button on the top right corner.
This new search feature is based on Facebook’s Graph Search. For those of you who don’t know about it, the Graph Search is a very powerful feature that has refined the searches you make on Facebook to a great extent. With the Graph Search, you can now search for people who live in the same city as you, study at the same college, share their workplace with you or even have similar interests like movies, music, books etc. Thats not all, you can also see the list of people whose photos you have liked in the past and even look for a particular category of people working in specific sectors at specific positions. The Graph Search was rolled out by Facebook about a year back.
The feature is still in its initial stages and is slowly being rolled out to iOS devices and desktop computers. You will be notified by a small alert right below the search window when the feature has been made available on your desktop or iOS device. Until then, you’ll have to scroll through people’s timelines all the way back to the time when the specific post was made. Good luck with that.
