HTC Desire SV, a brand new dual sim smartphone is released in Indian market. HTC silently introduced this handset in highly crowded dual sim market in India. Well, the handset has the potential to make it’s mark. Running on Android 4.0.4 ICS Desire SV is built around HTC Sense 4.0 UI. Unlike Desire V dual core Snapdragon S4 SoC and 768 MB RAM is used here to increase the level of multitasking. Unfortunately, Desire SV equips Super LCD 2 display instead of AMOLED. You would have expected AMOLED in this occasion but HTC sticks to Super LCD which they have been using successfully using in recent past.
HTC Desire SV belts 4 GB on board storage with micro SD card slot expandable up to 32 GB. You have plenty of storage for images, music, video etc. Though it sports 8 MP camera video recording. LED flash is there for low light capturing. Unfortunately, no front facing camera is there for video calling. Dual sim HTC Desire SV supports micro SIM cards only. GSM network is supported in both SIM cards while 3G HSDPA network is supported by one SIM card only. It’s still not clear which SIM supports 3G network.
Let’s consider individual hardware segments-
HTC Desire V Dual SIM Smartphone Releases in India
1. Operating System
Desire SV runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense v4.1 UI platform. Hopefully, it will be upgraded to JellyBean. HTC is yet to make this clear but a JB roll out is very much in the cards.
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 SoC is used in this handset that couples dual 1 GHz Application processor cores and separate GPU. Possibly Snapdragon S4 Play is used here. Supplied 768 MB RAM ensures fast processing speed. Samsung Galaxy S Advance is a good example of a smartphone that runs dual core ST Ericsson U8500 SoC and 768 MB RAM. Galaxy S Advance runs HD games without lagging. We can expect something similar to that here in Desire SV.
HTC Desire SV looks cool. Edges are rounded. Radical Yellow, Stealth Black variants are coming in market for the first time. The handset is measured to have a dimension of 129.7 x 67.9 x 10.7 mm and weight of 131 gm. It’s slightly thick but a compact one to be exact. Easy to hold at hand.
The droid equips 4.3 inch Super LCD2 4.3 inch display with 480×800 WVGA resolution support at 217 ppi. Display is not too brilliant. Pixel density is poor. Color, brightness and contrast may not be up to the mark though display supports 16 million colors. Integrated accelerometer, proximity sensors, ambient light sensor are there for better user experience.
HTC Desire SV sports rear facing 8 MP camera with add-on like Smart LED flash, auto focus, touch focus etc. It’s a BSI (backside-illuminated) sensor camera with f2.2 aperture, 28 nm wide-angle lens. No doubt camera takes brilliant images in adequate light. In low light situation five auto adjustable flash provide enough light for better shooting experience. You can shoot video while taking still photographs. Video recording is 480p. Normally, we expect at least 720p HD video recording from a 8 MP camera.
On board 4 GB storage leaves around 2.5 GB free. It’s quite enough for installing couple of large games in it. You can transfer files from phone memory to SD card once you complete installation using Apps2SD app. Micro SD card slot expandable up to 32 GB is there as well. One more thing in addition, HTC is offering 25 GB Dropbox cloud storage as freebie with this handset. You can store data over there to get anytime, anywhere access.
It’s a 3G supported handset. HSDPA speed is unspecified as of now. Other connectivity features are Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi with hotspot connectivity micro USB port expandable up to 32 GB.
Beats Audio powered sound system of HTC Desire SV doesn’t require any introduction. It;s simply brilliant. Video player supports MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV video formats. No DivX or XviD video format support is available here. Stereo FM Radio is not yet confirmed.
8. Dual SIM
HTC Desire SV is a dual sim standby smartphone. One sim remains active at a time. Micro sim card is supported in both sim card slots.
Li-Ion 1620 mAh battery is supplied with this handset. We do not have official data available of backup, standby time, talk time etc. It’s a removable battery which is preferred by most customers.
HTC Desire SV is priced Rs. 22,590/- in India. Currently price of the handset in other countries is not available.
Disadvantages of HTC Desire SV
Some of the specs of HTC Desire SV are impressive but in some areas in fails to meet average customer needs. It lacks secondary camera which is necessary for video calling over 3G network or Wi-Fi. Here are the disadvantages-
- No secondary camera
- 217 ppi Pixel density not impressive
Only consider it if you are looking for a dual sim smartphone. Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy S Advance is better than this handset and saves some money as well.
