Microsoft Launches Windows 8

Microsoft has officially launched its most awaited Operating System Windows 8 in an event held in New York City.Steven Sinofsky, President of Windows and Windows Live started the event by revealing the detail that Windows 7, of Microsoft’s desktop operating system, has sold a whooping over¬†670 million licenses.Windows 8 is the latest in the series of Windows Operating Systems and is being considered as the biggest over-haul since the launch of DOS by the company.

Sinofsky revealed that over 1,000 PCs have been certified for Windows 8 and described it as a new era of Microsoft and Windows 8 and described how far windows has come. He even described the time of Windows 95 as “living in caves”. Windows 8 is seen as an attempt to bridge the gap between PC’s and the Tablets. With the Tablet market increasingly gaining market share Microsoft has entered it with its Microsoft Surface tablet running on Windows RT and Windows Pro.

Every Windows 8 PC will run Windows Store apps.Sinofsky admitted that the newly launch Windows app store for having a small selection of apps, in comparison to what is available on others.¬†“We see today as a grand opening, and a very strong one,” he adds to his defense.

On contrary to what Apple believe that the world has come past to an era where PC’s have become obsolete, it looks like Microsoft still believes that PC market will gain. Windows 8 is optimized for Touchscreen devices and portable tablet devices. Ballmer described Windows 8 PCs as being “alive with activity”with social messages, photos, videos, music, games, and apps.

Microsoft Executives Mike Angiulo and Julie Larson-Green took their turns to demonstrate how Windows 8 is faster than its predecessor.Larson-Green says “everything is right where you need it, under your thumbs”.
