Microsoft Surface Pro 3, is it going to replace laptops?

We still remember the day when Microsoft announced about Surface tablet for the first time, and today is just another day when Microsoft has again announced Surface tablet with some improvised features and functionality and named  it as Surface Pro 3. But the question is, even though after launching Windows based Surface tablet with some power packed hardware again and again is it ever going to compete with those conventional laptops that offer amazing features, performance at an affordable price? Let’s try to dig in details.

1st generation Microsoft Surface was launched in two variants  Surface RT and Surface Pro 3. Both of them had pros and cons. Due to low performing hardware configuration and high cost, it was not able to meet company’s expectations and it was not able to feed even the potential Windows 8 lovers, who were waiting eagerly for a tablet running on Windows. On the other hand Apple with its iPad and Android tablet manufacturers were able to succeed  due to its “price”: “performance”: “cost” ratio.

What makes Surface Pro3 different from its sibling Surface Pro2?

Now, Microsoft has decided to go ahead and launch a new version of Surface, Surface Pro 3 at a starting price of $799 which can go up to $1949. Surface Pro 3 will have 12-inch (2,160×1,440 px) screen with kickstand, stylus pen, USB 3.0 support and comes with Surface popular back cover in different color shades  and will be running on Windows 8.1 Pro out of the box. Surface Pro3 will dazzle with its bezels coloured in silver and black.

Surface Pro 3 will be powered by Intel based Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processor. The device offers a viewing angle of 22-degree which can be extended to a total of 150-degree. Surface Pro3 is much lighter than its previous models. Users had qualms with the original Surface Pro tablets but it seems,Microsoft has really focussed on reducing the bulk on the device. Surface Pro 3 weighs around 800gram and is being able to run some high-end application which are resource hungry like Adobe Photoshop and 3D-rendering software.

It’s a different aspect altogether that, Photoshop application is optimized in such a way that it can run smoothly on Surface Pro 3 without any lag. But again,we cannot blame Surface Pro 3 for it, as under its hood we have Intel Core processors and onboard RAM those are handling critical applications properly.

Now the question is,  is Surface Pro 3 really worth of $799 considering its hardware, software and portability? The answer is Yes, if you are looking for something portable with a decent battery life,than hardware specification at $799 for daily use is apt for you and one can also opt for the higher end Surface Pro 3 tablet if you are looking for an improvised hardware  configuration, it will accept all into it. Surface Pro 3 is capable enough to replace those low-end laptops and can function as a laptop.

Microsoft is currently taking pre-orders for Surface Pro 3 from May 21 at 12:01 am EDT onwards via, Microsoft retail stores and third-party retailers. Surface Pro 3 comes with 1 year of limited hardware warranty.
