For years camera manufacturers are making Wi-Fi compatible cameras so that consumers can easily share photos in web just after taking them. As far as photo sharing is concerned, using these cameras is much more complicated rather than doing the same through smart phones. But recently, Nikon has introduced a camera using which both high quality photos capturing and sharing can easily be done. I am talking about the new Nikon Coolpix S800c which is sleek and compact. The camera was introduced last month in the market and it is priced around $350 in US market.
Nikon’s Android-Based Coolpix-A Features at a glance:
The features of the camera are indeed interesting which are going to be showed in the following part-
- 16 megapixel
- 10X optical zoom
- Wi-Fi enabled
- Capacitive touch-screen display
- Mobile apps like Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram are offered
- Runs on 2.3 Gingerbread Android OS
The camera measures 4.4 by 2.4 by 1.1 inches i.e. it is smaller than an iPhone but with rounded edges, bit fatter. It weighs around half a pound. Photos and videos are stored in a Micro SD card. The camera has an OLED touch screen display of 3.5inches. There are also physical Menu, Home and Back buttons. For navigating the camera, a nice feels of tactile and touch screen buttons are given.
The interface of the camera will appear to be very user-friendly and common for the Android phone users. From the Google Play App store, the Android apps are downloaded. There are just 5 icons in the home screen for the sake of non-techies. Those icons are: play, upload, shooting, browser and settings.
Photo and Video Quality:
As there is a GPS chip in this camera, users can record the location data to see where the photo was taken. By simply tapping the display, one can take the photo and also by squeezing, pulling or pinching the photo, the display of the captured image can be changed. The optical zoom quality of the camera is appreciable and it has settings like sports, dawn or dusk, fireworks and many more. The camera offers HD quality video recording as well.
Sharing photos from this camera is very simple if it is connected to Wi-Fi. You can tweet photos or share them in Instagram or Facebook easily with this camera. Photos can also be mailed as well. But sometimes the camera resists connecting in places like restaurant or café where Wi-Fi facility is given.
Per battery charge, 140 photos can be captured according Nikon regarding this camera. Actually measuring the battery life is little tricky in this case. You need to hold the power button down for some seconds to shut the camera off totally. Otherwise OS will continue running. Lithium ion battery of this camera needs to be charged regularly if it is taken out in any vacation. You can also carry extra battery because the battery is changeable.
Nikon Coolpix S800c is a very nice concept where you can get both the features of Android phones and a good digital camera but you need to have a Wi-Fi access otherwise it will become just a regular camera. Al lover, it is a nice concept and a very nice attempt by Nikon.
