A basic internet user is hacked as soon as he installs a software or if he downloads and plays a song from a non-trusted site. Also, pictures has virus which runs themselves as you open the picture. Now a days, a computer user wants a full version software for free. So, he/she searches for a crack or a patch which are created by hackers. As soon as he uses that patch or crack, he gives his computer’s full access to that hacker who has created that patch.

Tips to Protect Your Computer From Getting Hacked

Tip 1: Clear Your Browsers Cookies and History

A cookie is a file in which your web browser stores your web accounts information in encrypted form. A hacker can get access to your cookies and then can further hack your web account. So, it is important for you to clear your browsers cookies and history as soon as possible.

Steps to Clear Browsers Cookies

Step 1: Open your web-browser.

Step 2: Press Ctrl+Shift+Del on your computer.

Step 3: Click on the “Clear” button.

You have successfully cleared your browsers cookies.

Note: Clear your browsers cookies in about 3-4 days.

Tip 2: Clear Your Temporary files

You must clear your temporary files once a week as they may contain a malware or a virus. These virus or malware comes from files which you click after downloading from internet (generally music files or photos). These viruses can send your important data from your computer to a hacker or can even give full access of your computer to a hacker. So, it is important to clear your temporary files.

Steps to Clear Your Temporary Files

Step 1: Press Win+R on your keyboard. (It will open a run window)

Step 2: Enter “%temp%” in the text field and Press “OK” button.

(A folder will appear which has all the temporary files of your computer)

Step 3: Select all files and hit “Shift+Delete” key on your keyboard.

(This will permanently delete all your temporary files)

Step 4: Click on “Yes” button.

You have successfully cleared your temporary files.

Note: Clear your temporary files once in a week.

Tip 3: Fix registry Errors

You need to fix your registry errors as your registry might contain a key string which executes a virus as soon as your computer is started.

Steps to Fix Registry Errors

Step 1: Download and Install Wise Registry Cleaner.

Step 2: Open “Wise Registry Cleaner” and click on “Start Scan” button.

(This may take up a few minutes)

Step 3: Now, click on “Start Cleaning” button.

You have successfully fixed all your computers registry errors.

Note: Fix your computers registry errors once in 15 days. Also, create a restore point before doing the same.

Tip 4: Scan your System Files for Virus

Once you click on a malicious file, it can also effect your system files as it may contain a virus or a malware. So, it is very important for you to check your PC’s system files for any type of virus or malware. For this you can use any of the freeware antivirus (In my opinion, Avast is the best freeware anti-virus).

Steps to Scan System Files for Virus

Step 1: Close all running applications.

Step 2: Open your antivirus from system tray.

Step 3: Click on “Quick Scan” button (A quick scan only scans your system files).

(This may take up a few minutes)

You have successfully checked your system files for any kind of virus.

Note: Scan your system files every 5-7 days.

Tip 5: Run Malicious files using SandBoxie

Sometimes out of curiosity you want to click on files that you know can be a virus. To open these kind of malicious, you can use any freeware SandBoxie software which will run that application in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer. It will protect your computer’s system files from getting hacked.

Steps to Run Malicious files using SandBoxie

Step 1: Download and install “SandBoxie“.

Step 2: Start “Run any program sandboxed“.

(Go to Start Menu>SandBoxie>Run any program sandboxed)

Step 3: Click on “OK” button.

(A new window like this will appear)

Step 4: Click on the “Browser” button and select the file you want to open with SandBoxie

Step 5: Click on “OK” button and wait for program to start.

The program started is SandBoxed i.e., it can not effect any of your system files

Note: Open all malicious applications with SandBoxie.

Some Other Tips

  1. Never use cracks or patches to get full version of a software unless you are 100% sure that it is not a virus.
  2. Always use Genuine Windows (Never Pirated).
  3. Download softwares from Trusted sites (,, etc)
  4. Buy original softwares and music CDs.
  5. Never open malicious applications in windows environment (always use Sandboxie)
  6. Never disclose your IP address.
  7. Never open a Junk e-mail (it may be a trap to get your IP).
  8. Never click on malicious links in emails or in social networking sites.

    Well written, but you may also use Eraser to delete Temp files out from the PC. Use Cryptainer to Secure your USB.
