Shut Down Windows 10 In Less Than 3 Clicks, Here’s How

With every new version of Windows we get some new features and some new shortcuts that are supposed to make our time with our personal computer a whole lot easier. But something that I am sure all of us have been wanting for a long time now is a one-click shortcut for some actions one of which is the “Shut-Down” action.

Turning off our computer is something we do every time we get off it and we still don’t have a default one-touch shortcut for it even in the very recently released Windows 10. You still have to go through the 3 click way of first clicking on the Start button followed by the Power option and then finally the Shut Down option. But this article here is to help you turn this three click process into a shorter one. Just follow any one of the following three ways and you’ll be done in no time.

Assigning The Power Button

By default, the Power button if pressed when your computer is running will put your desktop to sleep or hibernate but for our benefit, we can program it to perform any other action too that suits us. In this case, we program it to turn off the Windows.

To do this, click on the Search bar in Windows 10 and search “Power“.

Then from the search options, click on the Power Options. You will then be guided to the control panel settings where you have to select the “Choose what Power button does” option.

You will then see two drop-down menus, one each for when the charger is plugged into your laptop or not. If you have a desktop, you will see just one option. Here, you can select what pressing the power button, sleep button and closing the lid does. Click on “Save Changes” and you’ll be done.

Add Shut Down Shortcut

If the above-mentioned method doesn’t seem fit to you, you can just add a Shut Down shortcut to the desktop. To do this, just right-click on the empty space on your Desktop and click on New > Shortcut. Then paste in the following and click on Next.

You’ll have the shortcut created to your Desktop from where you can just double-click on it to turn off your computer. You can also make it a single-click action by dragging and pinning it onto the Taskbar.

Right Click The Start Button

Another way you can shut down your computer running Windows 10 is by right clicking the Start button. You will then see a lengthy pop-up menu at the bottom of which you’ll see the “Shut Down or Sign Out” option. Click on this option followed by the Shut Down option and presto, your computer will shut down in less than three clicks.
