Sony Mobile communications is again in news with the launch of Xperia T “The Bond Phone”. Latest Bond 007 flick featured Xperia T giving it a worldwide exposure. So what’s new with Xperia T when Sony recently launched Xperia SL in September, the so-called successor of Xperia S. Both Xperia SL and Xperia T are highly configured android phones falling in category of superphones are a lot similar in configurations but there are some major differences which manipulates your choice in choosing a best phone for yourself. Recently before it’s launch Xperia T was rumored to come as LT30p, Sony Xperia Mint as like Xperia SL is known as LT26ii.
Branding the phones as the one of the finest in the Sony’s mobile phone era, Sony has got some serious good reviews from tech specialists when the quality of both phones are taken in consideration. Xperia T and Xperia SL give a tough fight to their competitors like Galaxy S3, HTC One X, Moto Razr, iPhone 5 etc.
Sony Xperia SL Vs. Sony Xperia T
Sony Xperia T and Xperia SL look like a flat box with little bit curve edges. Dimension wise Xperia T has 5.09 x 2.65 x 0.37 size and Xperia SL has 5.04 x 2.52 x 0.42 size. Xperia SL is shorter in length and a little bit thick as when 4.3″ screen phones are compared. Having a bigger screen size, lesser thickness; Xperia T is lighter in weight with 139 gm as when compared to Xperia SL which is 144 gm in weight.
Comparison Verdict :- Xperia T has much more classy looks, being much larger and lighter than Xperia SL. Though the transparent white strip which is welcomed by every Xperia user, is missing in Xperia T is an indication that it is not a part of Xperia NXT series.
Latest android firmware updates are normally rolled out very late in Xperia handsets by Sony but this time Sony rolled out of the box Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in both Xperia T and Xperia SL. In late September Sony rolled Android 4.0.4 in Xperia SL LT26ii model out of the box but in Xperia T also we saw Android ICS out of the box though Sony must have rolled out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for it, making it the first Xperia handset to get a jelly bean update. But it has been confirmed by the Sony that Android 4.1 Jelly bean update will start rolling for all Xperia 2012 handsets in first quarter of 2013.
Comparison Verdict :- Both Xperia T and Xperia SL (LT26ii) feature Android 4.0.4 ICS out of the box thus no difference in the OS running on them. As confirmed by official Sony blog, Xperia T will be getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update much before than Xperia SL will receive. So no point of judging the two phones based on their OS.
As it was in Operating System, processor of Xperia T and Xperia SL do not differ too much. Xperia T is powered with 1.5 GHz processor which is Qualcomm Krait MSM8260-A Dual Core and Xperia SL is powered with 1.7 GHz processor which is Qualcomm Scorpion MSM8260 Dual Core , a much older version. Both phones feature Dual core processors though Xperia SL is clocked with slightly greater GHz processor which doesn’t make any difference as you can overclock your Xperia T to 1.7 GHz by flashing it with CyanogenMod.
Comparison Verdict :- Qualcomm Krait MSM8260-A processor of Xperia T is slightly highly configured and fabricated as compared to Xperia SL processor. Though there is not very much difference in the clock of both processors but Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8260A system chip of Xperia T is much better than Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 system chip of Xperia SL. So Xperia T is surely a choice when it comes to processor.
Both Xperia T and Xperia SL are fully HD smartphones with great picture quality feature one of the highest pixel density among all smartphones available in the market today. Xperia T comes with larger 4.55″ screen size with high-resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels 16M colors TFT screen. Xperia SL differs only in screen size as it has 4.3” screen. As both phone comes with same screen resolution and a full HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, you get a true picture quality on both these Xperia handsets. Both phones features Capacitive, Multi-touch screen up to ten fingers support.
Comparison Verdict :- Xperia T has a larger screen size of 4.55″ around .25″ larger than Xperia SL though Xperia SL features 342 ppi screen which is the highest among any other android smartphone alive today. When it comes to HD quality and ppi of screen, Xperia SL knocks out even iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3. Seeing all factors, Xperia SL has a better display than Xperia T and surely is the winner in this category of comparison.
Xperia T and Xperia SL comes with 1 GB RAM in which 634 MB is usable. Xperia SL supports DDR2 RAM though Xperia T supports higher LPDDR2 Dual-channel RAM of same memory size. Xperia SL has 32 GB on-board memory in which 26 GB is usuable with no expandable memory card slot though Xperia T has 16 GB internal memory with microSDHC up to 32 GB, so total goes to 48GB memory. Sony is giving an amazing offer with both phones as you get almost 50GB free space in Dropbox when you sign up via your Xperia handset.
Comparison Verdict :- Xperia T has expandable memory card slot which remains absent in Xperia SL and a greater memory size if a 32GB SD card is used so Xperia T beats Xperia SL in this area.
When it comes to camera quality you can’t beat Sony Xperia handsets. Sony gave mighty 13 MP rear cam to Xperia T and a 12.1 MP rear cam to Xperia SL, both with LED flash, auto focus, aperture f/2.4, Sony’s Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor and a digital 16x zoom. Fully 1080p (1920×1080) HD video recording, 29 fps is supported by rear cam and 720p HD video recording is supported by front cam which is 1.3 MP in both phones.
Comparison Verdict :- Both phones have excellent cam quality though a slightly better cam in Xperia T than Xperia SL.
Not very much difference here in this category too, as both phones nearly supports same connectivity options. 802.11 b, g, n Wi-Fi support with Mobile hotspot and Wi-Fi tethering enabled. Both having a micro USB 2.0 connector, HDMI and 3.5mm headphones connector. Are you thinking where is the difference, it is in the Bluetooth connectivity. Xperia T supports a faster Bluetooth 3.1 as compared to Xperia SL which has Bluetooth 2.1.
Comparison Verdict :- Connectivity options in both phones are almost same if Bluetooth versions are ignored. Both phones are NFC enabled (comes with NFC Tags), supports android beam feature when NFC is on. We will rate both phones same in this category.
Xperia T supports 1850 mAh battery and Xperia SL has Li-polymer 1750 mAh battery. Though Xperia T has a greater capacity battery but Xperia SL showed much better results when both phones were played on same things. Standard talk time up to 8 hours 15 minutes was recorded on Xperia SL as compared to Xperia T where it was 7 hours. Music listening palyback time has a huge difference as it is 33 hours in Xperia SL though it is only 16 hours in Xperia T. Video playback time also has difference of about 1.30 hours when Xperia T is compared to Xperia SL 6.30 hours.
Comparison Verdict :- Personally what I think that Sony must have given a larger support for battery like 2250 mAh battery to keep up the larger screen in both phones as it is the screen which consumes most of 60% of battery. Xperia SL showed some astonishing results in the battery level when compared to Xperia T, though if you are just considering the battery capacity as a measure of comparison go with Xperia T but do remember there is only 100mAh difference and it can be ignored. Xperia SL is our choice in this category according to results run.
Media & Entertainment
Both phones support full HD screen and high-end gaming graphics. Xperia T has Adreno 225 graphics processor while Xperia SL supports Adreno 220 graphics processor. Both phone supports 3D and motion gaming, Playstation certified, TV launcher app, Walkman App, xLOUD technology to enhance sound quality on your Xperia Handset. FM radio is available in both phones. Both phones have integrated Facebook and Twitter with Timescape UI.
Comparison Verdict :- Both phones are true excellent entertainment loaded packages having no difference in any category. We noticed that Xperia T is a HD Voice certified phone which Xperia SL is not. Hence both phones are the winner in this category.
Xperia T has been launched worldwide but Indian users are still waiting for its launch, it is expecting to be around Rs.30000 price in India though available at around $578 in international market as when compared to Xperia SL is available in Indian market at Rs. 30000.
Comparison Verdict :- Having almost nearly same features in every category both phones are priced at same level in India. It’s just a user choice to select which one though it seems Xperia T is a much better worth buy than Xperia SL
