The Ultimate Desktop Buying Guide

The Ultimate Desktop Buying Guide

Can you imagine this world without a computer? I think your answer is NO. Yes, you’re 100% right. This world can’t proceed a single step without making use of these computers. Charles Babbage despite being the father of the computer, we should also than Bill Gates and Steve Jobs for revolutionizing the term- “computer”.

Even a student of the first class is learning their subjects via computers. Education institutions are claiming that they teach their students by smart classes. Indirectly they are making children’s addicted to computers. Ok, well let’s come to the topic. As computers help all group ages including children’s, students, teens, adults and even aged people. There is no rule that the one who uses the computer should be a geek. At a particular instant of time everyone is newbie in anything. Such computer newbie’s are now purchasing desktops without having 1% about them. They blindly trust the sellers while buying them. I won’t say sellers will cheat such kind of people, but I mean to say we should have basic knowledge about computer and computer configuration while entering the shops. If you’re such kind of human willing to buy a desktop for your need and lack of knowledge in buying a good configured computer, then I should appreciate you for finding this ultimate guide. This educational guide helps you in all possible ways while buying a desktop. Almost all parts are mentioned in this guide and I recommend you to go through all these points mentioned below to configure an awesome desktop

12 things to consider while buying a desktop

As mentioned earlier, this is an ultimate desktop buying guide. In this article we have divided almost all important parts of computer and brief details about them are mentioned

Brand

Let me start with Brand. Seeing any discount offers from unknown on new companies? Interested to buy a computer using those offers? Then you’re on wrong track. You’re going to waste $$$ for saving $. Those offers are small trap from those companies to sell outdated computers. Always remember one thing, highly reputed companies won’t try to attract towards their products by showing you some discounts. I think they won’t need such cheap tricks. I guess, you know APPLE – One of the leading companies in this awesome world. Have you seen any discount offers from them? Again I think your answer is NO. Ok, facts apart. While buying a computer, I highly recommend you to go with the best companies with very good service centers. Don’t think about money, you have to spend little more money if you feel you should spend your remaining life tension and stress free. Never go with unknown brands. Always choose companies like Apple, Samsung, Sony, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, Acer etc. If you still thinking to go with other companies, it’s up to you

Processor

intel i5 processors

The processor is King of a computer. Speed and performance of any computer depend on this processor. The best thing is to include at least Intel Core-duo processor in the configuration. But I never recommend it to anyone. If you’re a casual user, then it may suit you. But how know what happens suddenly, if you want to play a game with high graphics then its core-duo won’t allow you to play such games. So, I suggest you to go with the minimum I2 processor. I2 processor is a mandatory thing for people who use their computer for general needs. Are you using 3-4 hour computer a day? Then I2 processor is enough for you.   Even they are I5 and I7 processors are available now. If you’re a designer who use large software’s or any Adobe products, then I suggest you to include I5 processor in your cabinet. If you are going to use your PC up to peaks, then I7 is recommended for you. Geeks and software developers always prefer i7 Processor Choose your Category

  • Not-so-hard user (just for storing small data): core duo processor
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor
  • Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor

Memory

Memory, I mean hard disk. It is the place where your entire data and stuff go and rests. SATA hard disk is better to include in your cabinet. Data increases frequently, so it is recommended to use a hard disk with at least 250GB hard disk. They’re some who used to store/collect all kinds of movies, even full HD and songs; if you’re the one who belongs to that category then you should go to 500GB+ hard disk. Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk

Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor + 1TB Hard disk

RAM

computer RAM

“RAM” doesn’t think it was lord ram, It was different. RAM, generally it is RANDOM AXES MEMORY. In other words we can call it was the primary memory where the Hard disk is Secondary memory. A small amount of data is stored in RAM which helps to boot or start a computer. Without RAM, you can’t use the PC or even you can’t see the boot screen. Entire data in RAM get deleted once you stop power supply to the computer. The function of RAM is to speed up the computer. The more RAM you use, the more speed and performance you can experience Strange thing with RAM I think you’re good at mathematics? No? Not a problem now. It thinks you know something about addiction..Ok! I think your answer is YES now. We can insert two RAM’s in the same computer. For example you can place a 512MB RAM inside your cabinet. If you’re looking to increase it to 1GB? Then no problem, you can add insert another 512MB RAM from the same company and same DDR in other available slot to make it 1GB. So, your computer is now running on 512MB+512MB=1GB RAM. What are you thinking to use only one 1GB RAM directly? It’s up to you. But remember one thing in your mind. If you want to increase your RAM memory in coming days, you can add another 1GB RAM of same DDR and of the same company as last one. In short, two RAM’s should be from the same memory, same DDR and Same company (optional)

Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3)
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk + 2GB RAM (DDR3)
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk + 4GB (2GB + 2GB) RAM (DDR3)
  • Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor + 1TB Hard disk + 8GB (4GB+4GB) RAM (DDR3)
But do remember, the processor, RAM and hard disk are interrelated. You can run an i7 processor on a 256MB RAM nor you can use 1TB hard disk on it.

Motherboard

The word Mother in Motherboard says everything about it. It is the major part in the computer. Almost everything is connected to the motherboard. It contains tons of integrated circuits. A small disturbance among them may make your PC useless. So, always prefer to buy a computer with most advanced motherboard

CD/DVD drive

Though usage of CD’s and DVD’s are decreasing slowly but we should have to look into that too. Before buying the computer ask the seller particular about CD drive. Ensure that the drive is capable of burning both DVD’s and CD’s. There are some drives which are capable of reading/burning only CD’s or the only DVD’s. Never go with such kind of drivers. Always purchase a drive which can read both CD and DVD and even capable of burning data.

Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer

  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk + 4GB (2GB + 2GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer
  • Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor + 1TB Hard disk + 8GB (4GB+4GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer

Monitor

Monitor, which display the output of your entire work. Do you love your beautiful eyes? Again I think your answer is YES, if so you should purchase an LED plasma monitor. Even you can choose LCD monitors but it will affect your eyes more when compared to LED monitors. Another thing about LED monitors, LED monitors would have a clear vision up to 180 degrees but in LCD monitors it is quite opposite, if you look at LCD monitors from 180 degrees you may see negative style pictures. Monitor size Just now you have learnt about LCD and LED monitors right? Then you must decide the screen size now. I recommend everyone to choose a screen size in between 15 inch and 22 inch. A monitor less than 15 inch looks like a laptop and a monitor screen more than 22 inches may look like a Smart TV.

Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement)
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk + 2GB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement)
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk + 4GB (2GB + 2GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement)
  • Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor + 1TB Hard disk + 8GB (4GB+4GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement)

Operating System

Operating system (OS) is another important thing to consider while paying your bill for the computer you’re going to buy. The operating system is nothing but the heart of the system. Every operating system has their own pros and cons. In general all computers come with Windows operating system except APPLE products. I think everyone is familiar with Windows OS. If you’re thinking to buy a MAC, then you must think mainly about the OS as MAC comes with Mountain lion OS X which is completely different from Windows. I bet we can’t find even 1% similarity between APPLE and Windows operating systems. Web and graphic designers always prefer MAC OS where as software engineers and business people prefer Windows, mainly Windows XP and students prefer Windows 7 but not Windows 8. There are some who are familiar with Linux or with Ubuntu. Some computers are installed with duplicate operating systems. Make sure your new computer is installed with the Genuine Operating system and also check whether they have given a CD copy of that operating system Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows XP or 7 OS
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk + 2GB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows 7 or 8 OS
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk + 4GB (2GB + 2GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows 8 or MAC OS

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

This is not an important thing for Desktops but a mandatory thing for Laptops. Try your level best to buy a computer inbuilt with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Whereas Bluetooth helps to transfer data via air from mobiles and Laptops. If you lack data cables, then Bluetooth helps you in emergency cases Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows XP or 7 OS  – Bluetooth
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk + 2GB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows 7 or 8 OS + Bluetooth 2.0
  • Geek (Computer expert): i5 Processor + 750GB Hard disk + 4GB (2GB + 2GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows 8 or MAC OS + Bluetooth 3.0

Keyword and Mouse

I think I should not talk about the keyboard and mouse as they came by default. But they are some things to know about keyword and the mouse. There’re Wireless/Bluetooth keyword and mouse. For wireless keyboard/mouse you should attach a small device, which looks like pen drive permanently to the CPU and in case of Bluetooth Keyboard/mouse it works by using the Bluetooth connection. You should pair them in order to use it. Going deep into keywords, Multimedia keyboards will come into action. Multimedia keywords will contain extra keys which work as shortcuts. It includes Volume +, Volume -, Stop, Start, Pause, My Computer, Home and many such keys Choose your Category

  • Casual user (just for storing small data): core duo processor + 250 GB Hard disk + 512 MB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows XP or 7 OS  – Bluetooth + General Mouse and Keyboard
  • General user (Movie, Songs and Game lovers):  i3 processor + 500GB Hard disk + 2GB RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + LED monitor (15” inch to 22” inch, depends on your requirement) + Windows 7 or 8 OS + Bluetooth 2.0 + Multimedia Keyboard

  • Power user (who use their computer every second): i7 Processor + 1TB Hard disk + 8GB (4GB+4GB) RAM (DDR3) + CD/DVD writer + Keyboard and Mouse with Bluetooth

Graphic Card:

Who doesn’t love the awesome graphics? If you’re from a gaming family them graphic card is an important thing for you. If your system runs on the low graphic card, you are not able to play awesome and graphic rich games. Even you can’t see full HD movies with a low graphic card. The best thing is to include 1GB graphic card in the computer

Warranty

Till now we have been trying hard to configure a hell awesome PC. But who knows about our luck and bad luck. In any case, if anything goes wrong with your computer Warranty will save your money and time. In general most of the computers come with 1 year warranty and in some cases you can extend the warranty up to 3 years by simply paying some more bucks for the company. So what I’m saying is your computer should have at least one year warranty.

Over to you

We tried to cover all major parts of the computer which helps newbie’s while purchasing a computer. So, what do you think now? Cleared all you doubt’s? If not please don’t hesitate to ask us using the comment section. Also we feel happy to configure a system for your need. Well, if you are looking to get an iMac, you don’t even have to search for models because you have only the default version available and you can change the components of it and amazingly, you don’t even find a CPU.
