So, the rumors were true. Microsoft was making its very own tablet PC… psst. It’s not ‘exactly’ a tablet. It is a fully powered computer in the form of a Tablet PC. Before you read more about Microsoft Surface tablet, I’d suggest you to watch this video. This video will definitely make you love this tablet (provided, you’re not a crazy Apple fan). It will not tell you about its features. It’ll just show the design – and that’s really impressive.
Do you like the design? Personally, I do. At once, it may look like a “laptop”, but its not. The two things none of the other tablets have is, a detachable keyboard (kind of magnetic), and a built-in stand. Also, it has two webcams, full USB port, great battery, and a new hardware to replace mouse.
Let’s talk about figures and facts. Microsoft Surface is 9.3mm thick, just 0.1 mm less than Apple iPad. The new iPad is 9.4mm thick and weighs almost same as Surface Tablet. The display of Microsoft tablet is 10.6-inch wide with HD playback support (1366 x 768 pixels). It runs on Windoes 8 RT – a gorgeous operating system everyone likes.
The tablet has two webcams, they call them LifeCams. The rear LifeCam is placed at 22 degrees, to allow you to record events and conferences without any need to hold the device in your hands. Just pull out the built-in stand, place it on a table and hands-free it is. The detachable keyboard, or magnetic cover, is a revolutionary accessory. Being a ‘cover’ it protects the tablet, and gives the functionality of… not just a keyboard but also trackpad. May I call it a convertible tablet?
Oh, wait! The keyboard is just 3mm thin!! And the built-in stand is just 0.7mm thin – jeez! Even a credit card isn’t so thin. The keyboard connects to the tablet with magnets, very much similar to smart cover of iPad. Microsoft claims that it has a great battery, but has not mentioned any detail about the battery life.
Microsoft has promised that the price of Surface Tablet will be similar to the iPad. There is no official note on the price yet, it will be decided near the launch date. It is not likely to be launched anytime before the fall. Experts say that we can expect it to be in market around October or November.
For people who don’t want ‘slim’ design, but need better performance, a slightly thicker model of 13.5mm will be available. It will run on Windows 8 Pro. It weighs around 903 grams and features a pen.
“We believe that any intersection between human and machine can be made better when all aspects of the experience — hardware and software — are considered and working together. We see that combination working in our PC ecosystem. We believe in the strength of that ecosystem. Much like Windows 1 needed the mouse, we wanted to give Windows 8 it’s own hardware.”
“The Microsoft Surface Tablet will be a part of whole new family of computing devices from Microsoft.” – We can reasonably determine that more ‘awesome’ devices will come soon.
What do you think about the device? Previously, RIM failed to beat iPad. Can Microsoft Surface beat iPad by any chance?
