Hey! Cool down! I am not writing this post to bash Micromax or insult it. I love the Micromax Canvas HD. It’s the first quad core smartphone by any Indian phone maker. It has a beautiful, sharp and a huge 5″ inch screen. The 294 ppi hugely compliments the 5″ inch display and 1 GB RAM helps in multitasking. It has some great features and specification but still it failed. Why? There are some major reasons why the Micromax Canvas HD failed, here I list them for you.
Micromax knew that the Canvas HD would be huge hit as people were eagerly waiting for a quad-core phone to arrive in the market but they didn’t produce or make the Canvas HD in sufficient quantities. They chose the wrong dates of launching their product. They launched it when the Chinese New Year was being celebrated in China and as the stock of Canvas HD got sold out, Micromax couldn’t do anything as the factories were all closed and they couldn’t order any parts from China. At the same time, the Samsung Galaxy Grand was launched and Micromax lost few customers to Samsung.
Deal with SnapDeal
Another mistake that Micromax did was the deal to sell the Canvas HD with Snapdeal. Now people in India most either shop Flipkart or they shop directly from the market. Flipkart at the most times good and fast delivery. Few days back I was going through the Snapdeal Facebook Page, I saw that their wall post was completely filled with complained that the Canvas HD was not being delivered in time. Some guy even started a campaign against Snap Deal and Flipkart. But recently Micromax broke that deal and started the sale of Canvas HD in other e-commerce website like Flipkart etc. Had Micromax done that before, it would had saved a lot of customers.
Lack of Internal Storage
Now come to the smartphone itself, Micromax gave the Canvas HD a powerful quad-core processor, lots of RAM, good HD display and things like that but they didn’t give enough internal memory. Its the same like buying a computer with latest configuration and specs and getting no hard drive to use and utilize those power. They gave the Canvas HD just 4 GB of internal storage from which just 1.7 is user available. Though Canvas HD has the power to play games like Nova and Asphalt, you cannot simply play those games just because there is not sufficient internal storage to play those games, how ridiculous is that!
Micromax is currently selling the Canvas HD at a price of Rs 16000. I can understand that the recent increase in taxes by the Indian Government but such a high price? Take the example of Karbonn Titanium S5, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad Core Processor and it also has the same 5″ screen (Though the resolution is qHD) and its price is Rs 12000. If Karbonn being a Indian Phone Maker can sell a phone at such a low price why can’t Micromax? Is Micromax going the same way as Samsung, pricing its products ridiculously?
If you are looking for a media consumption devices and want to play games, watch movies and do stuff like, I would suggest you to buy the Nexus 7 instead. It also comes at a price of Rs 16,000. It is way too powerful than the Canvas HD, thanks to the quad-core Tegra 3 processor. The only problem would be that you can’t use the Nexus 7 for calling. If you consider my story, I don’t use these Android Phones for my calling and talking needs as I don’t like charging my phone several times a day. I use my Nokia 101 for that and it lasts around a week with a full recharge.
