The process of storing, accessing and managing your data is never easy. Whether it was the time of keeping it on magnetic tapes, compact discs, external hard-drives, USB’s or on some other alternatives, it’s always been a tough job to perform an excruciating work to store your data. With the aforesaid storage options, the probability of accidental data loss was always high.

Then came cloud storage – a service developed on a robust cloud platform (IaaS), and which was aimed at empowering consumers to easily store data online and to have uninterrupted access to it along with the ability to share the data online from anywhere, anytime & through any device. The concept evolved and attracted viral status, taking a considerable market share.

When it comes to storing data, cloud storage is quickly becoming the method of choice. Storing files remotely rather than locally boasts an array of advantages for both home and professional users. Not sure what cloud storage can do for you? Here are the top 10 reasons to give your external hard drive the boot in favor of online storage services.

1) Dynamic computing infrastructure:

The most important is cloud servers are really flexible to work and generated zero downtime this characteristic allows the cloud servers to easily cope with changing any user demands and requirements without the need to rework its architectural framework. As it works through remotely controlled different VMs (virtual servers) the cloud enjoys the advantages of having standardized, stable, and measurable and secure physical infrastructure, thus ensuring a high level of availability and flexibility.

2) Scalability:

Scalability is perhaps the greatest advantage of cloud computing. Cloud computing lets your business increase and decrease resources on the go, according to your needs. This means no more down-times or crashes caused by server over-usage. And it’s not only that you pay only for what you use, but also that the cloud provider handles the technical part for you.

3) Uptime:

The most required thing to run successful business needs an interactive website with server like cloud to handle the load generated at site and maintains uptime of a site to deploy services to its clients without any worries.

4) Host Unlimited with Vast storage Capacity:

It is really great thing that you can host anything on the cloud it could be your WordPress blog. Forum or your business website and with unlimited storage space, as opposed to restricted storage space that most hosting offers. Depending on the size, domain age, number of visitors, social media traffic and many other factors of your site cloud server hosting will work best for you.

5) Accessibility:

It is greater with cloud computing. You can access your data from any location on the planet, provided you have a computer and an Internet connection. You do it through a web Interface, by entering the user name and password your cloud services provider gives you. From tablets to smartphones, netbooks to desktops, we’re using more devices on a daily basis than ever before, and toggling files between each of these devices can be cumbersome and complex. Not so with online storage services. You can access your account from any internet connection, whether you’re on a mobile browser or your work computer.

6) Automation and Syncing:

The biggest issue most consumers and businesses have with backing up is following through; it simply just doesn’t get done. Online storage services make the tedious process of backing up easy to accomplish through automation. You simply select what and when you want to back up, and the service does the rest. Syncing ensures your files are automatically updated across all of your devices. This way, the latest version of a file you saved on your desktop is available on your smartphone.

7) Cost:

Costs of migrating to cloud services are low because there’s no need for purchasing hardware – the cloud provider handles almost everything. The money you thus save can be invested in other areas of your business. What’s more, since you don’t have to purchase hardware when you want to store more information – asking your provider for more resources is enough – you save money in the long run.

8.) Security:

Security is also better with the cloud. Since there is a network of servers that store your data, hackers cannot really target a specific server and harm you. No single server hosts you data, so the location where your data remains is unknown, making the occurrence of thefts highly unlikely. An internal cloud, which implies additional security measures such as firewalls, is even more secure.

9) Consumption-based billing:

The most useful thing for most small scale businesses who would really like to have cloud server for hosting their site because one of the key characteristics that make cloud computing cost efficient: with cloud hosting, users only pay for what they actually consumed or used. It employs a usage-driven, consumption-based model, which utilizes mechanisms to track consumers’ actual service usage and bases the billing on this information. This usage can also be controlled for those aiming to cut down on IT costs since as earlier mentioned; businesses are granted control for optimization.

10) Protection& Recovery

Cloud storage serves as an added layer of data protection for your precious and irreplaceable files. Backups are kept in a secure location that is physically removed from the originals.

In the event of catastrophic data loss, you’ll have backups of all your original files so you can restore them with zero downtime

11) Go Green:

Green is the color of the cloud. Joining the cloud is one of the things your company can do to reduce hardware costs, electricity usage, and cooling expenses for your data center. If you add all these up you realize that with cloud services you’re contributing to the preservation of the environment. Considering how easy it is to migrate to cloud services, the cloud can help you go green and notice the results almost immediately.

If you ever had any confusion & if you ever struggled to get your questions related to cloud & its benefits answered, then hopefully you are now in a better position to decide on a better way to utilize personal cloud storage to backup and safeguard your data online. Play with your data & keep it safe & within reach 24/7/365.

A very good post, and very good points you make about the benefits of the cloud. A note that I may expand on would be that, in regards to accessibility, scalability, and security, cloud storage has another intrinsic benefit, in that it can live in the same infrastructure as virtual desktops. Desktop as a Service which is well integrated with reliable, HA cloud servers (such as on hosted VCE Vblock) allows for enhanced accessibility and security – virtual desktops are always available, while data itself never leaves the data center. Scaling is also much, much easier without physical machines to worry about.

A really great article, once again – it hits many of the key value added propositions for the cloud.
